Exercise Dancing: Make getting fit feel like a party

So before I go and tell you all about my amazing way to stay fit, let me tell you about some facts about me.

First of all, I’m not much of a gym person or a running person or any type of person that includes being willing to exercise for hours. I have tried being that person because I have loved that discipline but let’s just say I’m not that type of person either. So you maybe are asking what are you doing giving advice on staying fit? I‘ll answer that for you, I’m not.

I am 21, working a job that includes staying in front of a computer 8 hours a day and at the same time finishing my Bachelor’s degree which is actually taking forever to be done. I’m also an introvert, so the gym or group events are not my thing.

SO what does a person like me do to stay fit? Well, what I can tell you with certainty is that the best thing you can do is to have fun while trying to stay fit.

How to get started

I’m not the best dancer and I don’t like dancing in public but when I find the right music I totally and absolutely rock it. Well not like for real but in my mind I do and I have to say I have done this for 4 years and has really helped me with my self-confidence and with my dance moves as well.

Here’s what I do. I find the first song that really makes my body move, and why not some empowering song with which you can sing along. There are plenty of songs and playlists on YouTube or even radio stations. So you have the music then you need the space. If you are like me you don’t need much space but I really would advise you to have a mirror nearby. It makes it more fun. After you have the place, mirror, and the right music just dance and sing to your heart’s desire.

Now you will say “this will not keep me fit I already do it every time”.

Of course, it won’t! What will actually do the trick is the body exercises you will be doing at the same time. Here is what happens. You dance for like 10 minutes just as a warm-up and then you do like 10 or more lunges. Remember to do as much as you can handle, it doesn’t have to be much. It is all up to you on how much you can handle. You can be amazing or you can be like me who after doing like 10 of them for the first time couldn’t walk for two whole days. Then you can continue with pull-ups, the famous plank, then maybe some push-ups and if you like altering all of those together it would be amazing.

My routine includes 10 minutes of dancing, some lunges ( you have to know that the best thing you can do is after starting with a few, after some days you can always up the number, always with a reasonable quantity). Then another song or two then I continue with a plank for like 30 seconds or more. Later on, I continue with the pull-up, I guess 30 are good. Then after singing along to the sound of Ed Sheeran, I do some stretching. It helps relax me and keeps me flexible. You can find a lot of easy stretching exercises online which are quite easy but great since they help with your posture and leave you relaxed. I have found that it even helps with your sleep.  In the end and I repeat it is always a personal choice but some times I also like to meditate a little especially if it has been quite a day.

Now the whole routine is something you can customize and adapt to your rhythm and what feels best for you.

Since I am not the best early bird out there I prefer to do this whole thing in the evening in the privacy of my room but it can be done also in the morning.

Just remember the music! Without it is there even a rhythm to what you are doing?

Now you should remember that if all these may seem a bit complicated so if you are a person who needs visualization you can easily find hundreds of videos on YouTube to help you with the routine you think is the best for you.

What to expect

So what you need to know is to take it day by day and have fun with it. Always follow your gut and if an exercise feels good then why not do more of it.

This is a type of exercise that is easily done from the comfort of your home. You don’t need to join a group or become part of a gym even though you can do that if you like exercising with others.

I think the fact that this is easily done from the comfort of your home is what I like more about my way of exercising.

But, you have to know that you should not expect big visible rewards immediately. This is not a way to get fit soon, and although some may see results very soon it is not the same for everyone. It all depends on how much you work and mostly on your body type.

How to find a place or a group

Now you can easily find fitness gyms that offer these types of services. You can join a dancing class and work with a professional trainer who can be a big help. Do a little research on the fitness programs around your area and find the one you believe is the best for you and signup. It might be hard the first times but you will surely get the hang of it and you will start having fun while feeling good about your body.

Benefits and Drawbacks

I can tell you a lot of benefits that come with being fit but I’m sure you know all about that.

What this method does is that gives you a good mental state. You will feel more relaxed and dancing and music is a sure way to improve your humor. For me is the best way to release stress and improve my mood after a bad day.

Another good thing about this method is that will help make your body quite flexible and lean. To me, this is one of the best things. I hate feeling like eighty and fearing as my bones might break. Dancing Exercise has really helped with that and also my posture which is quite helpful knowing I spend quite a lot of time sitting on a chair.

As for the Drawbacks, I should say besides the time you will have to make in your day there are not many if none but this depends on the person and your way of operating so you should always consider that when you take up an activity.

 

All I want to say as I conclude my article is that each and every one of us is different and the best thing for someone can be totally wrong for someone else. All you have to remember is that you have to do your thing and the best rhythm will come to you and trust me it will turn out to be a fun activity you will be looking forward to. How do I know that? Easy, it happened to me.
